Subramanya Bharathi
Subramanya Bharathi (1882–1921), popularly known as Mahakavi Bharathiyar, was a pioneering Tamil poet, journalist, writer, social reformer, and Indian independence activist. His powerful poetry addressed freedom, social equality, women's rights, nationalism, spirituality, and Tamil identity.

Biography
Early Life
Bharathi was born as Subbiah in Ettayapuram on 11 December 1882. From an early age, he showed exceptional talent in poetry. At around eleven years of age, he received the title "Bharathi."
He later spent time in Varanasi, where he encountered new intellectual and cultural influences and developed his knowledge of languages including Sanskrit, Hindi, and English.
Journalism and Nationalism
Bharathi worked as a journalist and became associated with publications such as Swadesamitran and India. Through his journalism and poetry, he promoted Indian independence, national consciousness, and social reform.
In 1908, he moved to Pondicherry, then under French control, where he continued his literary and journalistic activities.
Literary Contributions
Bharathi wrote poetry, essays, stories, translations, and songs. His works explored nationalism, spirituality, nature, social equality, women's rights, and human freedom.

Today, he is remembered as Mahakavi Bharathiyar and as one of the major figures in modern Tamil literature. His poems and songs continue to be widely read, performed, and studied.
